Chapada Diamantina is located 400 km away from cities like Lençóis, Andarai, Palmeiras, Ibicoara e Mucugi. The mountain range is spread out in a 38 thousand km2 area dividing two important rivers: São Francisco and Rio das Contas.
This region presents one of the most wonderful landscapes of the country, with immense plateaus, waterfalls, deep grottos, underground rivers, crystalline lagoons and rich fauna and flora.
The tourist will also see large colonial houses and old paved trails used by slaves at the time of the gold and diamond cycle.
The “cerrado” covers great part of Chapada, but the “campo rupestre” is the predominant vegetation and registers a great number of endemic species. Orchids, bromélias, cactis, begonias and hundreds of other rare species resistant and adapted for great variations of humidity, light, temperature and wind, common in this region, form a beautiful landscape with high scenic value.
Lençóis is the main entrance for Chapada Diamantina, holding a nice colonial architecture protected by law as part of the historic patrimony of Brazil.
