The historical flavor of Paraty combined with the outdoor experience of sea kayaking Saco do Mamangua is a really outstanding experience—I wish we could’ve had several more days there!
I’ve been to many colonial cities, but Paraty is among the finest—extremely well-preserved, small, intimate, easy to get around and what a setting! The distance and time spent sea kayaking was just enough to give a good workout, but not so much that you were totally exhausted—that’s the way I like it…I’m on vacation after all. And the stops we made—snorkeling, the boat-maker’s house, the waterfall/mangrove, the soccer game—were very nicely balanced. Looking back on it all, it shows just how much there is to see and do in a relatively small area.
Christian and Fernando are fantastic guides, very fun to just hang out with. They each have a very well-rounded base of knowledge which they were good at adapting to each person based on their particular interests.
Accommodations were equally great. The setting and grounds of the (hotel in Saco) would stack up to anywhere I’ve been in the tropics. Truly magically beautiful, with great food and a band to match.
